Explore the Wild Together: Dog-Friendly National Parks You’ll Both Love
There’s nothing better than adventuring in the great outdoors—except bringing your furry best friend along for the ride! While many national parks have strict pet policies to protect wildlife and ecosystems, there are still some stunning parks across the U.S. that welcome dogs on trails, campgrounds, and more. If you're looking to plan your next pup-approved getaway, check out these dog-friendly national parks:
🐾 1. Acadia National Park (Maine)
Acadia is one of the most dog-friendly national parks in the country, offering over 100 miles of pet-friendly hiking trails and carriage roads. Your pup can also join you on the free Island Explorer shuttle bus during the summer.
🐾 2. Shenandoah National Park (Virginia)
With over 500 miles of trails (including parts of the Appalachian Trail), dogs are allowed on almost all of them—perfect for hiking, leaf peeping, and waterfall chasing with your furry sidekick.
🐾 3. Grand Canyon National Park (Arizona)
While dogs aren’t allowed below the canyon rim, they are welcome on all 13 miles of the South Rim Trail, and even in some campgrounds. There’s also a kennel available if you want to do some inner canyon exploring solo.
🐾 4. Cuyahoga Valley National Park (Ohio)
This hidden gem between Cleveland and Akron is extremely pet-friendly. Dogs are allowed on over 100 miles of hiking trails, and even the Towpath Trail, which follows the historic Ohio & Erie Canal.
🐾 5. Olympic National Park (Washington)
Though much of the park is off-limits to pets, Olympic offers a few scenic trails and beaches where dogs are allowed, including the Kalaloch and Rialto beaches. Plus, nearby national forest areas expand your adventure options!
Before You Go:
Always check the park’s official pet policies before visiting, pack extra water and waste bags, and keep your pup leashed (usually 6 feet or shorter) to protect them and the environment. Bring snacks, like our Bananas for Bacon Soft Baked Biscuits.
Whether you’re hiking to breathtaking vistas or just enjoying a quiet forest walk, these national parks make it easy to bring your dog along for the adventure. After all, tails wag best in the wild!
