Farm to Treats: Cahoon Farms

Meet Cahoon Farms in Wolcott, NY

A Brief History on Cahoon Farms

Cahoon Farms was founded in 1943 by Donald Cahoon, Sr., an Agricultural graduate from Cornell University. He purchased the original 100-acre farm near Lake Ontario, just outside the small village of Wolcott, NY. He and his wife Marjorie raised their 10 children on the homestead, many of whom are still in the apple industry today.

“Here at Cahoon Farms, we manage the fruit right from the beginning.”

Cahoon Farms boasts over 400 acres of orchards where they grow, harvest and sell fresh apples. The apples that aren’t sold are used for juices, pomace, dried fruit, powders, and soon, apple sauce.

During the juicing process, Cahoon Farms squeezes as much liquid from the apples as possible. The rest of the apple, minus the core and stem, are dried and ground into a powder or pomace that can be used for different purposes.
